Clay County Republican Central Committee calls for immediate passage of meaningful initiative petition reform, supports Missouri as a right to life state and condemns State Senate disfunction.
We the members of the Clay County Republican Central Committee unequivocally state the following:
Meaningful Initiative Petition Reform must be the immediate and highest priority of the Missouri General Assembly. Missouri is currently one of the most Pro-Life states, with strong statutory protections for unborn children and their mothers. This status must be protected utilizing every legal means available. Pro-abortion organizations, funded and supported by out-of-state resources are actively seeking to undermine this status, including exploiting current Initiative Petition procedures which will undermine the will of Missouri’s citizens.
Contrary to earlier expectations, the Missouri Senate continues to lack the resolve to pass key Republican priorities, like IP Reform. As a result, growing tensions have produced a chamber driven by petty grudges, procedural delays, and scapegoating. The Senate chamber is now in full disarray and currently incapable of conducting the legislative business for which the Senators were elected, and, for which their Republican constituents expect.
We particularly condemn the actions of Senate Republican leadership which removed State Senators Denny Hoskins, Bill Eigel, Andrew Koenig and Rick Brattin from their committee chairmanships and parking spaces.
We call on President Pro-Tem Caleb Rowden and Senate Majority Leader Cindy O’Laughlin to immediately accomplish the following:
• Re-install Senators Hoskins, Eigel, Koenig and Brattin to their rightful chairmanships along with all accompanying privileges.
• Pass Initiative Petition Reform immediately as the ‘Number One’ legislative priority of the State Senate and General Assembly.
• Vigorously, unequivocally and immediately pursue the conservative Republican legislative agenda for the remainder of this General Assembly session.
If these conditions are not expeditiously met, then we the Clay County Republican Central Committee support changes in Republican Senate leadership to include resignation or removal of Senate Pro Tem Caleb Rowden.
